1 My part-time job

 Foreigners come to shabu shabu shop.

 Big eyes, tall and aggressive.

 I am overwhelmed by them.

 Pounding heart.

 They can’t understand Japanese.

 ”This (point to meat) in the pot and shabu shabu. ” 

 I don’t know right.

 Feel vivid red around me.

 Hot pot and ashamed.

 They stared at me.

 Turned their heads.

 Couldn’t tell them.

 I felt the wall of communication.

 Later, I’m in blue and black.

2 School trip

 I went to Taiwan in school trip.

 I was in blue.

 First trip to foreign country.

 Never have talked with foreigner .

 First experience.

 At a station, I and my friends got lost.

 We should ask for right way.

 But thousands of people around us hurry and look busy.

 I heared sound of trains and people.

 They made my heart busy.

 ”…Excuse me, we want to go to here…”

 ”Then, you can take this train for there. Follow me! ”

 Could tell foreigners my request.

 Led to my confidence.

3 Talking Taiwanese student

 Taiwanese students came to my highschool.

 Rare opportunity.

 A foreigner girl student joined my group.

 Taught how to origami and speak Japanese.

 I talked to her with simple English.

 ”What color do you like? ”

 She was better smile.

 I thought she couldn’t listen to my voice.

 More loudly again.

 Her reaction was same.

 My pronunciation was bad?

 I didn’t know yet.

 And I was in blue from pink and orange.

4Fruit basket

Next time, my favorite English time!

I enjoy every time.

Especially, I like ”Fruit basket”.

I listen to friend’s voice carefully.

”Fruit basket!”

Someones said.

Then, everyone stands up and run.

I like that moment very much.

I had a card with a picture.

My heart begins to beat up.

My picture is apple.

”Apple,apple……”

I murmur in my heart.

”Apple!” classmates said.

I hurriedly look for vacant seat.

Seats are full.

I smilingly shouted, 

”……Fruit basket!!”

 5 Highschool study

English is my subject I’m not good at.

”Explore, explore…, improve……”

I repeated many times.

I did this  anywhere.

School, train, home, libraly…

Sometimes, I listened words CD.

I think somdtime ”why?”

But memorized I thought that does not matter.

Test is a good score.

My brain is empty.

Knowledge should be there…

What is ”English grades”?

What is ”correct English study”?

Such a tough and tiring?

In my head, turned round and round…
6 English

Why we study English?

To get good score?

To go to highschool or university?

Close my eyes and thought…

Remembered elementary school English class.

Unusual class, moving around the classroom

hear children’s laghter

talking with neighbor…

That time was shining.

That time was pulling children of interest.

That time was new learning place.

They can express free feeling there.

Experience learning from play.

Actually, the purpose may not be necessary.

Play and interest leads to learning.

7 Migration in USA

 No migration in my life.

 Why?

 My imagination

 Large, hear English talking…

 It is stress for me.
 New action is important.

 

 But another my imagination.

 Friendly, smiley, like family…

 Feel warm.

 Canvas in my heart is white.

 Color is not yet.

 What color is painted…?
8 Talking to ALT 

 I want to talk with ALT, Lee.

 Lee is very tall and friendly.

        big blue eyes and blonde hair.

 He looks shining for me.

 Try to talk to him,

 he plays with children.

 Try to talk to him,

 children around him.

 Too popular!

 ”Lee sensei, Lee sensei!”

 I shout.

 Face is hot.

 My heartbeats are noisy.

 He is smiley.

 My body solidifies.

 My father buy the game.

 Rearrange and make words

 My father quickly move hands.

 Only rearranging, can make the words.

 It is like Magic.

 My brain is spinning quickly.

I don’t know more than 50words.

 I can’t make the words.

10  Take a train

I take a train for going school. 

I see the man every day.

He is red hair and long beard.

He looks bear.

He sleeps…

While being shaken by a train.

Train stops a station.

A station he get off every time.

”I have to wake him up…”

My heart beats fast.

I approach him.

I push him with my finger.

”Excuse…”

I just say, he wake up.

”Thank you!!!!”

Little time, but I’m happy.

I want to talk with him more…!

1 This poem(1 My part-timejob)is a story when I was working my part-time job in first year university student. Foreigner came to my part-time job’s shop. They couldn’t understand Japanese. So I thought I should speak English as much as possible. My part-time job’s shop is shabu shabu shop. I tried to explain how to cook shabu shabu, sorce and topping. Because I just have started part-time job,I’m nervous.  I tried to explain hard with gesture. But foreigners were confused. I thought they couldn’t understand words I said. When I thought it, I was shamed. And I want to tell more clearly in English.

2 This poem(2 School trip)is a memory when I was high school second grader. I went to Taiwan. I had never travelled abroad. So I was very nervous. I did not want to go. But I went there. I got lost at the station in Taiwan. I had to talk to Someones around me I talked to a woman who was near me. It is first time I talked to a foreigner outside the school.It was very nervous for me to talk to a foreigner who is not a teacher. She was very kind. She told me to follow her.Until now I did not feel much interested in going abroad, but I got a little fun after I had a conversation with her.

3 This poem(3 Talking Taiwanese student)is a memory Taiwanese students came to my high school. Every year, the second grader is supposed to entertain them. 6 students came to my class and we devided into 6 groups. We worked with them. A girl entered our group. We taught how to make origami and had lunch together. When we talked with her , I want to talked to her. I spoke to her with simple English. But she was confused. She looked like she did not understand well. So I said again. She was better smile. I thought my pronunciation was bad. I felt sorrow for I did not communicate.

4 This poem(4 fruit basket) is a memory when I was elementary school forth grade. Then , I enjoyed English class. Because it is time for me to play with friends and ALT. 

Particular, I remember “fruit basket”. An English class, we did it. The play made my heart hurry. I like the moment everyone begin to move by saying magic word ”fruit basket”. The game started, I was nervous because my card I had was not called. I murmur ”apple,apple…(my card)”. Finally, my card was called! But seats were full. Next is my turn. I’m looking forward to this time. I smilingly said ”fruit basket!”.

5 This poem (5 High school study)is a feeling when I was high school student. When I study English, Iwas thinking”is my study method right?” Repeated many times, memoried hard…I thought things I  was doing has no meaning. One time, I stopped studying this study method. But there is no method in addition to this. If I memorised all, English score will good.Actually, I wanted to study more fun. My brain was empty and I don’t have any knowledge. Knowledge enters and disappears … Do you acquire it by mechanical memorization? ”what is English grade?” ”What is true learning? ” Such a thought everyday.

6 This poem(6 English) is a feeling I think every time. Particular, when I was junior high school student. In elementary school, I enjoyed English class and I positively acted. Move my body, talking with my friends and ALT or singing a song. It was form of ordinary English class for me. But since I entered in junior high school, I realized accident. English class was not fun! I only write and memorise grammar. Active class time is not so much. I was sad this. But I studied English hard. Because I thought that I would hate it if I did not study English now.

7 This poem(7 migration in USA) is a feeling I think about migration in USA. I have no chance migrate foreign country now. Because I hate to live environment different place. For example, spoken language and size of the body are stress for me. But it is not only bad imagination. As if it were a family member with friendly and warm smile… I want to try to go abroad. I have little anxiety, but the exciting feeling is bigger. I think that new action or experience are important. Canvas in my heart is white. For painting it, I felt that I would immigrate if I had the chance.

8 This poem(8 Talking to ALT) is a memory when I was a kindergarten. In my kindergarten, there was ALT, Lee. He is very popular, there were about 7kindergarten children around him every time. I love him but I couldn’t talk with him. When I saw him, I shouted ”Lee sensei! Lee sensei!” I was so hard to have me see. But he did not come to me because of children around him. I did not want to lose. I shouted as much as I could again. Then he turned here and smiled at me. I got settled for a moment but I immediately ran into him.

9 This poem(9 Boggle flash) is a memory when I am in a junior high school first grader. Then, I had thought ”English is difficult, I hate English.” School life started, my father bought a game. My father likes games everyone can play. First, I did not like listening to English game. The game is rearranging random alphabets appearing in digital blocks and making as many as possible. Actually trying, I enjoyed it. I got used to this game and I fought my father which made more words.  I was a little confident. But, I lost because I did not know a lot of words. I regretted it.I decided to know more words.

10 This poem(10In the train) is a memory when I was a high school second grader. I take a train for going to school. In the train, I looked at a man every time. The man was sleeping while on the train. He looks like bear. One day, I looked at him. He was sleeping. But he did not get up when train stopped a station which he get off every time. I thought I have to wake him up . But I did not have the courage talking to him. I talked to him. He woke up soon and,said”thank you!!!” I wanted to talk with him more.

①Self-introduction

My name is Hinano Nishijima. I’m from Gumma. Gumma is roughly in the middle of Japan. I attend Gumma University. I’m second years in university students. Gumma University is in Maebashi. It takes about one hour between Gumma University and my home. Everyday, I go to school by car. I’m Japanese major. I want to be a elementary school teacher in the future. I have studied English about 9 years. I easy to say a little greeting, but I difficult to talk in English. And I’m not good at listening words in English. I like English. I want to go to USA, Australia and Canada. I’d like to be able to speak English.

②Explanation of your theme

A theme of this book is my English memory for 9 years. In the memory, I made poems which I can remember. I choosed these poems because I think I can tell you my real voice of mind. So I wrote detail, direct feeling. Each poems are different from experienced piriod. But I think that how I feel is similar to each poems. It is because most of it is experience that I could not understand or talk about English. So I emphasized the feeling that I wanted to understand English. Memories that are pleasant, embarrassing and sad are expressed in this poems.
